Jonathan MacAdams

Artist Jonathan MacAdam was born in England. His recent work concentrates on the relationship of differing skies to the landscape and architectural buildings below. MacAdam received a BA in Fine Arts from Gordon College in Wenham, MA. He lived in Orvieto, Italy for five months where he continued his art studies in the Italian Renaissance. Jonathan is a painter and teacher on the North Shore and maintains his studio in Beverly Farms, MA.

Artist’s statement – “In my work I tend toward simplifying forms into broad areas of color. Close value areas next to one another interest me. I am happy to show the traces of the brush stoke. The lines in my paintings tend to be playful. Most of my paintings are done from the memory of a place. Sometimes I use a photograph or drawing as a starting place, and then I start to paint what I feel. When stepping back from the work, it appears to be very realistic, and then when the viewer gets closer the painting, it becomes mysterious, broken down into areas of color.”
